Steve Sammartino is a business person and thought leader on the subject of technology and business. Steve is a rare kind who has worked in the largest of companies, including the world’s biggest advertising agency and the world’s biggest Consumer Goods Company as well as startups he’s founded and sold. He’s also done a lot of crazy projects including putting a lego space shuttle into actual earth orbit. Steve is a Director at Australia's first new car company in over thirty years.
His book The Great Fragmentation: And Why the Future of All Business is Small, discusses the digital revolution and what it means for business.
Steve is involved in the venture capital industry and invests in business & new technology. His blog has been in Australia's top 10 the past 5 years.
Brian Birley was born in, and brought up in Rhodesia.
Brian migrated to Australia in May 1986 having joined Gadsden Packaging as General Manager Southern Region. He formed his own company P.A.C.E. Corporation in August 1986 in International logistics. His career changed directions on several occasions over the next 11 years. He spent 5 ½ years in Information Technology with roles that included NCR as General Manager OCC Marketing and MITS as General Manager GIS and Communications Systems, General Manager of the Spatial Systems Group and Communication Services Group. Late in 1997, Brian returned to Melbourne to re-establish P.A.C.E. Corporation Pty Ltd as a consulting practice specialising in Strategic Planning and Human Capital Management.
Darryl is a partner in Jackson Russell’s Business Law team. Darryl and his colleague Caroline Harris have been acting for the Association and a number of its members since 2014. Darryl’s areas of legal speciality are mergers and acquisitions, franchising, securities, and general corporate and commercial law. Darryl is New Zealand's leading expert in self-storagte law.
David and Tim have a combined 30 years’ experience as specialist self storage valuers with wide-ranging expertise in the valuation of both operational and proposed self storage facilities throughout Australia and New Zealand. They have undertaken several projects for major market participants including Kennards Self Storage, Abacus Property Group, Rent A Space Self Storage, Safe ‘n’ Sound Self Storage, Fort Knox Self Storage, Fort Knox Storage, Storage Choice and numerous Storage King licensees. Active in the pursuit to develop self storage as a mainstream investment asset class, David and Tim regularly engage with multiple self storage stakeholders, including financiers, analysts, owners and managers.
Mike Burnam is Chief Executive Officer at TKG-Storagemart Partners, L.P., which operates 196 self-storage facilities with more than 14 million square feet of storage space in the US, Canada and the UK. Mr. Burnam was previously Chief Executive Officer and Trustee at Warburg StorageMart Partners. He also served as Chief Executive Officer at Storage Trust Realty taking the company public in 1994 than in 1999 selling it to Public Storage. Mr. Burnam has developed, built and sold over $3.5 billion in self-storage properties. He has been the President of the Self-Storage Association and has served three times on the national Board of Directors. Mr. Burnam also sat on the Canadian Self Storage Association Board of Directors in 2007 and was inducted into the Self-Storage Hall of Fame in September 2015, the second member of his family, after his father, to do so.
Mike Coleman is a Partner in the Enterprise team at KPMG New Zealand based in Wellington with a passion for family business. He has been with KPMG for over 26 years and have backgrounds in both corporate financial advisory services and private and family enterprise. However, for the last 14 years his sole focus has been helping private and family businesses across a wide range of industries. As a passionate Wellingtonian, Mike enjoys the immediacy of working with the capital's SMEs helping clients make long-term, fundamental change to improve business, family and community prosperity.
Nicki McClintock has always been interested in people and their businesses, after completing an Accountancy degree, Nicki began work for a Bank in 1999 and have been Banking ever since. The last 11 years with ASB working with Commercial and Rural Businesses. Most aspects of her work focus on people development, sales skills and coaching – ranging from Communicating and Presenting, to Negotiations, Networking and Business Development. Nicki facilitates seminars and workshops to both external clients, prospects and our own people as part of a programme of deepening relationships and increasing business development opportunities and skill. The other part of her role is focussed on analysing how we can do better as a business – looking for opportunities to improve, then making it happen – AKA Problem solving and Project Management.
Richard Cooper gets a buzz from observing a family work together to create an environment for family members and the family enterprise to thrive to achieve personal and business goals. Richards role is to bring first hand insights and a proven approach to bring out the best in business. Richard has been with KPMG Advisory for the last 14 years, including the last 5 years assisting mid to large multi-generation family enterprises, and private companies, capitalise on opportunities to grow and create value, and to also respond to challenges when they arise.
Rob Baird joined Ezidebit in 2007 as General Manager of Sales & Marketing and became Sales Director in 2011. With a decade of payments experience Rob has helped many business and industries improve their financial performance through the application of the right payment technologies, processes and products. Acquired by Global Payments Inc, Ezidebit is the largest non-bank provider of payments services in Australia and New Zealand, processing over $6 billion annually for over 20,000 businesses and 1.5 one million customers.
Simone Hill is Australasia’s pre-eminent legal expert in contractual matters concerning self storage. A valuable member of the SSAA team Simone has been involved in the Self Storage industry for over 20 years. She has helped literally hundreds of SSAA members in dealing with interesting legal predicaments that arise when operating a self storage business, and is also a regular contributor to the Inside magazine. Simone often presents at SSAA conventions and Summits and as a lawyer who speaks plain English you can understand, she is always highly regarded.
Susan Phillips is the Chief Executive Officer of the Self Storage Association of Australasia based in Melbourne with her entry to self storage commencing back in 2005 in Charters Towers, North Queensland where Susan built her first self storage facility.
Her interest in giving back to her community led to several roles within the Chamber of Commerce, the Townsville Hospital and Health Service Board, the Queensland Government Business Advisory Group and a board position with the Self Storage Association.
Susan is an intrepid traveller and that sense of adventure and self-confidence is already a common value of the SSAA and Susan hopes other members will support her ongoing development of education and training opportunities for industry participants. She is also keen to build the Association’s member base and drive the industry to even greater professionalism and engagement with its rapidly growing customer base.
Tony is a world-leading motivational and inspirational speaker. He is humorous, bold and straight talking as he brings you a story you will never forget. The basis of Tony's presentation is self-belief; the theme is simply "You attitude determines your altitude in life" Now in constant demand as a keynote speaker to corporations and conferences, he has spoken in various countries around the world, leaving his audiences with an insight of what can be achieved with determination, belief and a burning desire to succeed and accept the challenges in life.
Jim Stewart is the founder and CEO of StewArt Media, a leading Australian digital marketing company and a Google Premium Partner. For almost two decades, Jim has achieved outstanding success for local and international clients across a diverse range of industries with a continual focus on adding value. Sam Kennard has been the Managing Director at Kennards Self Storage Pty. Limited since 1994. Sam has an intimate knowledge of the self storage business, his experience includes several years managing storage centres, progressed to supervision and to property development and acquisition. He has worked in a number of customer-facing roles, as well as Operations, Marketing, Construction, Finance and Property Acquisitions and Development. He has accumulated extensive experience in the business, property sector and self storage industry. He serves as a Director at Kennards Self Storage Pty. Limited. He participated on the Self Storage Association of Australasia Board of Directors and continues to contribute on sub-committees. Sam studied and graduated from Hawkesbury Agriculture College with a Bachelor of Business (Land Ec.).
