Membership Benefits
The Self Storage Association of Australasia (SSAA) is a group of self storage facility owners, managers and suppliers interested in fostering the development of the self storage industry on a sound ethical and professional basis.
The SSAA provides members a wide range of diverse business tools that are relevant to the self storage industry. This helps members achieve their business goals and assists the profitability of their businesses. Members are able to pool their resources to increase public awareness, enhance their image and stimulate overall demand for the industry.
SSAA members keep up-to-date with current industry activities and events through a regular publication, annual convention, public communications, seminars, training, educational and informative materials for self storage owners, operators, business managers and suppliers.

| Annual Convention & Trade Show | An invaluable event within the self storage industry. Members may register to attend specialised educational and management training sessions and engage with local and overseas suppliers about the latest ideas, products and services for the self storage industry in a trade show setting. |
| Standard Self Storage Agreement | A Standard Self Storage Agreement has been drafted by the Association's legal advisers to assist in protecting operators from liability in relation to customers and/or customer's goods in storage. It is regularly reviewed in light of new experiences and developments. This Agreement is made available to members for their protection and to increase the credibility of the industry. |
| Manual of Advice and Procedures (MAP) | This supports the Standard Self Storage Agreement and provides guidelines for industry "best practice". It also provides comprehensive guidance on what to do when common industry issues arise. |
| Legal Counsel | The SSAA provides members with convenient, complimentary access to our legal advisors for queries, contracts, legal training and associated legal matters. Our legal team has specialised in the self storage industry for the past 15 years and is equipped with widespread and in-depth legal knowledge on self storage matters across Australia and New Zealand |
| Certificate and Logo | Members are provided with a Membership Certificate to display at their business site and have the right to display the SSAA logo on their website or printed materials, to identify their membership with the SSAA and commitment to high standards of ethical conduct. |
| Regional Dinner Meetings | Meetings of members are regularly held across Australia and New Zealand in a premier venue, with a three-course dinner and drinks. They serve as an informal opportunity for discussion of local issues amongst colleagues and a platform for business networking opportunities. Each meeting generally has a carefully selected specialist speaker or trainer. Our speakers range from industry and non-industry professionals and provide insight, education and real life case studies on a variety of topics such as sales techniques, reducing costs, increasing facility income or small business tactics. |

| Industry Magazine - the 'Insider' | The Insider is a glossy, professionally produced magazine that is published and delivered to members every two months and provides coverage of industry issues, events, trends, news, advice and educational material. |
| Demand Study | The SSAA bi-annually produces a comprehensive study into the drivers of demand for self storage. This study is based on research of both users and no users of self storage and helps predict the demand for storage as well as profiling traits of existing users to better understand the market. It is an essential tool for anyone that wants to grow their self storage business in Australia or New Zealand. |
| Industry Awards | These prestigious awards are conducted annually to recognize excellence in the industry. They are one of the many tools used by the SSAA to improve the standard of the industry so that operators can benefit from having more satisfied customers. |
| EFTPOS | Members are eligible for some of the cheapest EFTPOS rates in the country. This deal is regularly reviewed to ensure its competitiveness. |
| Internet | The SSAA has a chat room plus opportunities to advertise for employment or sale/purchase of facilities on its website. There is also a secure Members' Only section. SSAA members also get to register for a @selfstorage.com.au email address free of charge. |
| O H & S | The Association provides an industry guideline to Occupational Health and Safety. This is a benchmark document of Workplace Safety in the industry. Included is a pro-forma O H & S management system, provided on CD so as it can be tailored to meet your individual business needs. |
| Code of Ethics | Members are required to adhere to an industry Code of Ethics so as to engender greater confidence from the general public for facilities operated by SSAA members. |
| Panel of Valuers | The SSAA, after consultations with the major lending institutions, has established a small panel of valuers to specialise in the valuation of self storage facilities |
| Almanac | Annual surveys are independently conducted so as to establish occupancy levels and space fees across the industry. The results are complied into an annual Almanac provided to members. Members are also regularly surveyed to identify new services for existing services requiring improvement. |
| USA, UK and European Affiliation | The SSAA is affiliated with the SSA in the USA and UK. SSAA members are able to receive member discounts on all SSA and SSA UK and European conventions. The SSAA also receives the relevant magazines and publications from these Associations. |
