The information included in your submission must relate to the qualifying period that applies to the category in which you are entering. Achievements outside of these timeframes will not be considered.
For all categories, the qualifying period is 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017, apart from Best Upgrade or Expansion Award. The qualifying period for this category is 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2017.
All entrants or facilities must be current members of the Self Storage Association of Australasia.
Please note – Each award category has specific criteria.
Organisations that are sponsoring the awards and employees of those sponsors, are ineligible for nomination for the award they are sponsoring.
Small Operator of the Year – Sponsored by Southwell Lifts and Hoists
This award is open to all members of the SSAA who owned or operated the facility being entered for the qualifying period. A “small operator” is defined as an operator who owns or operates four (or less) self storage facilities.
New Facility of the Year – Sponsored by Colliers International Holdings (Aust) Ltd
This award is open to all members of the SSAA who have opened a new facility during the qualifying period.
Best Upgrade or Expansion Award – Sponsored by Highway Frontage
This award is open to all SSAA members who either started or completed an upgrade or expansion to their facility in the last two years.
Innovation Award – Sponsored by FKSL Management
Designed to recognise and reward innovation that will benefit the self storage industry or our customers. Award nominees must be members of the SSAA.
An “innovation” is defined as any service, facility, product, or process that improves service or business management. The main criterion is that the entry is innovative in the industry and provides benefit. Innovations available in overseas industries will be considered if they have been adapted in some way to suit the Australasian self storage industry and the nominating SSAA member has been involved in that adaptation.
Service Member of the Year – Sponsored by Self Storage Association of Australasia
Nominations will be accepted from a Service Member business working in the self storage industry. The Service Member of the Year recipient must have provided a product or service to the self storage facility operators in Australasia for at least 12 months.
Regional Facility of the Year – Sponsored by Midland Insurance
This award is open to all members of the SSAA who owned or operated the facility being entered for the qualifying period. A regional business is considered to operate in a location that is 50kms or more from a capital city. The judges will decide on each entry’s applicability to the regional category.
Facility of the Year – Sponsored by Visy Boxes and More
This award is open to all members of the SSAA who owned or operated the facility being entered for the qualifying period.
Entry is open to current financial members of the SSAA exclusively.
SSAA retains the right to contact finalists prior to the awards presentation if deemed necessary and all finalists must be prepared to attend the awards presentation.
SSAA reserves the right to withdraw from judging any nominating organisation that goes into administration, voluntary receivership, liquidation or is declared bankrupt after the awards closing date.
SSAA may exclude an entry if that entry was received after the closing date for the awards entries.
SSAA reserves the right to not grant an award.
Mystery shopping comprises only part of the judging process. Following the Awards ceremony all finalists will be provided with a copy of their Mystery Shopping results if it was part of the judging process.
All persons involved in the awards, including awards coordinators and judges who may come into contact with your entry, will sign binding confidentiality agreements and will treat all information confidentially. All nominations submitted for entry remain the property of the SSAA.
Entrants agree that SSAA’s decision is final.
A condition of acceptance of your entry is your agreement that the conduct of the competition and associated arrangements by the SSAA shall not give rise to legal obligations or duties, valid or enforceable in any way.
